The School and the Church

The Revd. Roger Billings writes
Some eleven years ago when the idea of a school on the planned housing estate was mooted the Diocese and the Parochial Church Council were unanimous in requesting that this be a church school. This was well received and over the years of planning church representatives were on the various committees and the Diocesan Surveyor oversaw the building.
Eight members of the church are Foundation Governors and the Rector of the Parish is the Chair of Governors. Four of the Foundation Governors are also parents of youngsters at the school. This link has meant that St John's Church has been involved practically as well as in encouragement and prayer and will continue to do this and to value and strengthen the link. Many of the church children are also at the school and the clergy taking weekly assemblies together with the school coming down to the church has given us a strong bond.
The Christian emphasis of the school is very important to both school and church.
We have also been able to use the school buildings for a church outreach into the estate, with the Necklace Project. This has involved a fortnightly Sunday afternoon meeting and a weekly Mums & Toddlers.
Information about church/school is shared between the two communities.
Best wishes
Reverend Roger
