Welcome to St John’s Sunday school Children and young people are our priority We have a dedicated team of leaders and helpers and our aim is to ensure children and young people can learn about God in a fun, safe environment. Sunday school takes place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sunday of the month. The first Sunday of each month is a family service and children are actively encouraged to take part. When there is a fifth Sunday in the month the service is organised and run by the young people from our MADDER Group. Sunday school is split into four age groups - pre-school & reception, years 1, 2 & 3, years 4, 5 & 6 and our Pathfinders group for those at senior school. We also have a crèche for younger children. We predominately use teaching material from Scripture Union supplemented by some of our own.
Events "Beyond the Egg" and "Beyond the Present"
At Easter and Christmas we run a children’s workshop and invite local children to join us in making a variety of crafts. Most crafts are based on the bible and encourage children to think about the meaning of these important events. Holiday Club For one week in the summer holidays we turn the church into party zone with fun & games, crafts & sketches all based on a bible theme. The whole event is supported with lively music and action songs from our music group. Light Café Held on October 31st it is our alternative to Halloween. In 2006, after running several light parties, we launched a Light Café. We turned the church into a café and invited the children to come for tea, followed by fun and games. The youth group threw themselves into the spirit of the occasion and came dressed as waiters and served the younger children. It was such a huge success that we now plan to extend the café to families and senior citizens. Presentations Once a year we have a presentation day where we give each of our children and young people a small gift to thank them for their commitment to Sunday school. At our last presentation we had just over 50 youngsters on our registration. Nativity Held on Christmas Eve, this is a very popular service. It is organised by the Sunday school team and involves as many of the children and young people as possible. A children’s choir run by one of our leaders and supported by the music group has been particularly successful.
