ANNUAL ALL DAY CRICKET FESTIVAL
14th JUNE

On Monday 14th June, we took two year 5/6 cricket teams to Shipton
Under Wychwood CC to play in the annual all day cricket festival.
Having had several weeks of training, the children felt quite
confident and - on the pitch - they looked good. Both teams played in 5
consecutive games from 9.30 - 2pm with only a 20 minute break.
One of our teams played in the Small Schools Pool. They played well
in their first game and only lost by a handful of runs to Clanfield. By
the next game, they had warmed up and went on to win their next 3
games. Unfortunately, they lost against St Josephs by 4 runs. The
fight for 1st place was close, but we were just pipped at the post.
Our other team were playing for the plate. They tried very hard,
winning two games and losing 3. They came 3rd overall.
All of the children enjoyed their day out and there was some
excellent batting and fielding to be seen. By the end of the day, both
teams were playing really well, pulling together and encouraging each
other on and off the pitch. Well done to all of you!

CRICKET
25 May 2010

Brize Norton was chosen to be a Chance to Shine School this year
which means that we receive free cricket coaching for the Year 5's and
6's this term during school time, and the coach then runs a KS2 cricket
club after school. The children have really been enjoying these
sessions and we have seen a huge improvement in their cricket skills
already.
On Tuesday 25th May, our cricket coach - Tim - was accompanied by a
surprise visitor...the current ladies England Cricket Captain, Charlotte
Edwards. Charlotte joined in with the cricket coaching sessions,
hitting balls for the children to practise their catching and offering
tips. She then joined in a game of cricket during the after school club
- enabling children to have a go at bowling at her or be bowled at. All
children who took part had a fantastic time and have really been
inspired by having a 'real sportsperson' in their school.

ATHLETICS

On Monday 24th May we took a minibus load of Year 5's to Burford
Secondary School to join other schools in our partnership at a Year 5
athletics festival that was being run by Young Sports Leaders.
It was the hottest day of the year so far, but this did not put any of
our children off. They threw themselves into activities such as 100m
sprints, relays, high jump, triple jump, long jump and javelin.
Everybody had a go at everything - and loved it.
After 2 and a half hours we had some very tired - but proud school
children.
Ross and Hayley were also named as their group's sporting champ and
signed the 2012 School Olympic Countdown; as of Monday, there were 795
days until the 2012 Olympics in London.

WOSSP TAG RUGBY TOURNAMENT
5 MAY 2010
On Wednesday 5th May, we attended a tag rugby tournament organised
by WOSSP at Witney Rugby Club.
Teams from the Burford and Carterton Partnership attended and were
sorted into a large school pool and a small school pool.
We got off to a promising start with a draw against St Christophers;
excellent considering we'd never played as a team before! The team got
better and better throughout the afternoon, with them making some
excellent passes which allowed tries to come thick and fast from Ross,
Josh, Zara and Charlie.
We finished on a win against St Kenelms - which meant that we came third
in our pool; an end to an excellent afternoon of tag rugby fun. Well
done Brize!

CLASS 1 & 2 FOOTBALL MATCH AGAINST ST PETER'S ALVESCOT
27 APRIL 2010

Class 1 and 2 played in a friendly football match against St
Peter's, Alvescot yesterday. More pictures
here.
Following on from several weeks of free football sessions for
Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 in our school partnership, we organised 2
friendly football matches against St Peters, Alvescot.
Any child who had attended the football was invited to play in the
6-a-side matches - which proved to be a huge success. The children had
a fab time and said that it was 'great fun'.
The results were that one of our teams won 3-2 in a closely fought
match, and our other team won 4-0.
Well done to all of the children who took part or came to support.
Also, thank you to Terry Merriman and Sam Goodwin who helped out with
refereeing and organisation on the day.
