A VARIED MENU OF ACTIVITIES

After-school Clubs

Brize Norton Primary School offer a range of after school clubs each term. These usually operate from the end of the school day until 4pm and include study support for some year groups.

SUMMER TERM

Having listened to the views of the children and the comments from the returned parent questionnaires, we aim to provide the following clubs next term.

Some of these clubs continue to be run by staff, while others will be run by outside providers. All dates, times and costs are detailed below.

Some clubs have limited places and so will be offered on a first come, first served basis. As we often have to turn children away from a club due to limited numbers, children need to make a commitment to a club and attend each week.

Most clubs will run over the following dates, unless stated differently below:

Week commencing 26th April, 3rd May, 10th May, 17th May,  (5 weeks)

Week commencing 7th June, 14th June, 21st June, 28th June, 5th July (5 weeks)

Clubs will not run in weeks 19th April, 12th July or 19th July unless otherwise stated

Parents Aloud

Brize Norton Primary School are committed to providing activities for children and families. Supported by Burford Partnership Extended Services, we provide activity sessions for families on a Saturday each term

Bushcraft Survival Day   12th June  10 – 2pm

On Saturday 12th June, Brize Norton families spent the day at school taking part in the first Parents Aloud session. During the morning teams competed for 'dollars' carrying out a range of team challenges. These could be spent on a variety of fire making equipment. After lunch fires were made and then the fun began. Families had the opportunity to gut a fish or prepare an egg to be cooked inside a potato. Surprisingly most children wanted to gut the fish! Having cooked their food on their camp fires the children all tried what they had cooked. Much laughter was had during the day and all involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves. See more pictures here.

Family Learning Week

During the Easter holiday, the Burford Partnership held a Family learning Week at the secondary school. Many partnership families enjoyed activities such as, survival, pottery and cooking.

Awards for All Opportunities

In 2008/09 we were successful in our bid for £5100 to provide additional after-school activities and parent and child learning opportunities. These include:

  • A fencing club

  • Drama workshops

  • Team building activities

  • Adult and child cookery lessons

Holiday Playschemes

During the summer holiday 2008/09 the Burford Partnership ran a holiday play scheme in each of its schools. This allowed children from any school to access activities in each week of the holiday including sport, art, drama and computer weeks. This provision will continue to be offered by the partnership in 2009/10.

Support Resources at Home

Over the coming school year (2009/10) we will be developing our learning Platform to allow children and parents to access resource materials outside of school.

At home children currently have access to Education City, a web based resource to support their learning in maths and English. To find out your child's unique user name and password contact your child's class teacher.

During 2009/10 we will be introducing JuniorLibrarian.net, a web based library loaning service. This will allow children and parents to browse the school's library books at home, complete book reviews and search for information on authors and illustrators. Children will then be able to borrow books from our school library.

Healthy Schools Group

Brize Norton Primary School has a working party of parents and children who advise on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This includes a termly newsletter with recipes and ideas for exciting and healthy lunchboxes. Contact can be made through the school office.
