ECO-SCHOOLS SILVER AWARD

The Eco-Team are pleased to announce that we have achieved the Silver Eco-Schools standard. Over the year we have been working hard to achieve our three targets:

1. To make the school grounds a great place for learning
2. To cut down on the amount of waste we create in school
3. To reduce the amount of energy we use in school.

All staff and children have worked hard to achieve our targets. Next year we are aiming for the Eco-Schools Green Flag. You can find out more information here.

CLASS 4 - THE HILLS ARE ALIVE

18TH JUNE 2008

On Wednesday 18th June Class 4 went to London for the day. At 7.30am we all left school and caught the bus to Oxford, where we then got the train to Paddington Station. We then travelled on the underground to St James Park and watched the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. During the day we went to Downing Street, The National Gallery and went to watch the Sound of Music. We caught the train home at 7pm and got back to school just before bed time. It was a day to remember! See more pictures here and here.

ENVIRONMENT WEEK

2 JUNE 2008

This was an exciting week for all staff, children and helpers. Our BIG project for the week was to develop the school grounds for learning. This we did with the help of lots of parents and friends of the school. We all worked hard to clear the wildlife area; plant a butterfly garden and fern stumpery; we cleared the pond; planted new planters and created a herb and water garden amongst many other things. We would like to thank the people who gave up their time to help us and the businesses who generously supported our project. Read more about the week here. See before, during and after photos here.

ARTSMARK AWARD

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the Artsmark by the Arts Council England. This is awarded to schools in recognition of outstanding commitment to the arts. It is a benchmark for arts education provision. This year all the staff at Brize Norton Primary School have worked hard to provide quality experiences in art, music, dance and drama within our new creative curriculum.

WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK

12 MAY 2008

During Walk to School Week we have been thinking about the benefits of travelling to school other than in the car. The week started with two visitors. Class 4 had a special visit from the Road Safety Team and had to think about 'staying safe' in the local area. Our second visitor showed us the reasons why we need to wear cycle helmets. He helped check that our helmets fitted properly. Over the week we are going to be learning how walking can help our bodies and the environment. Visit the Walk to School Website here.

BOOK & DRAMA WEEK

31 MARCH 2008

During book and drama week our whole school theme was, 'Open a doorway to another world'. Each class studied a book in detail over the course of the week and responded to characters, settings and plot in a range of dramatic, artistic and written forms.

The week started with an exciting dressing up day. All of the children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. We had a parade on the playground.

During the week we invited many visitors into school including the storyteller Chris Smith; the poet John Foster and a theatre company who performed The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Throughout the week different teachers also read us their favourite stories and we paired up with other classes to share our favourite stories. At the end of the week we celebrated all of our work in a sharing assembly. The week was fantastic!
